This amazing, little twelve-minute video blew my head off the other day, and I wanted to share it with you. It’s about what our current economic crisis means to the sustainability of life as we know it on our planet, and the opportunity people are taking now to create a new, better way of life for everyone. I hope you’ll share it too!

Please let me know what you think in the comments!

Looks like the video is missing now, perhaps moved since you posted it. Do you have a title for it, or a new link? Thanks!

I think the whole sustainable agriculture movement is already addressing this, plus where I live I buy all of my food from either my Amish farmers or a CSA. It’s not hard at all to get out of the grocery. I think this film is faulty in the economic realm… that isn’t how the banking system works exactly and they totally ignore the money that continually flows back into the system so this is a little out there. When Pres. Clinton ordered the banks to create more lenient lending policies, they were writing mortgages for people who really couldn’t afford them. So as more people were buying, it drove prices a lot higher than normal (law of supply & demand) and then when the economy slowed down, people were stuck with crazy interest only mortgages that they couldn’t pay… then the banks were stuck (which I think this briefly mentioned). Whenever gov’t. thinks it can run businesses or invest in business, it is usually wrong and it ends up messing up free capitalism. There is nothing wrong with people being forced to live within their means and not buy so much. This self-correction hurts but it had to happen and things will feel more “normal” again soon. I’m all for not producing any more drugs (go with homeopathy!) and living a slower lifestyle. Let’s turn off our computers and save energy and time too!

Hi Dawn,
This video was really interesting. Some of it new information, and some I already knew. In some areas, I try very hard to make changes, but I think I need to try much harder in other areas. Todays Wednesdays Adorned From Above Link Party is up and running. Everyone is welcome to link and join in the fun. Check out what other great bloggers are up to. Also get this great Natural Lip Balm Recipe.

Fascinating! From a Christian standpoint, the earth was never intended to last forever, at least not since the fall of man. At that point, it began dying, and there is nothing we as humans can do to stop that process. Certainly we speed it along unnecessarily, but ultimately, it’s not in our power to halt it completely. I agree with the video in that we shouldn’t rely on our government for the solutions, but neither do I believe the answer is in relying on ourselves and each other (although certainly we should do that as well). Ultimately, our hope is in Jesus Christ and His coming again, His millenial reign, and eternity in Heaven.

This is excellent and motivational. It takes a paradigm shift in thinking to get most people out of this modern mode of thinking though. I feel like I am beating my head against a wall sometimes when I talk about such things.

No head beating over here, Jen. Such ideas are what Small Footprint Family is all about! Together, we can help spread this paradigm shift in thinking.

Excellent video! A big wake up call. I have been studying this for some time, and although it is very scary, I am seeing more and more people waking up to what’s going on.
